Lucka 7 – Green tech startups

Sweden is proving that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand, ranking #2 globally in innovation this year according to the BBC’s Global Innovation Index. A major contributor to this accolade? Its flourishing ecosystem of green and climate tech startups. At the heart of this movement lies the Swedish Climate Startup Map, a hub showcasing 508 cutting-edge startups and scaleups driving the green transition forward.

Launched in 2020 by the innovation incubator Sting, in collaboration with partners like Chalmers Ventures, Ignite Sweden, and Dalarna Science Park, the map is a testament to Sweden’s commitment to sustainability. These organizations don’t just document innovation—they actively fuel it, helping startups scale, attract global attention, and foster an ecosystem of change.

The map highlights five major areas of focus:

  1. Energy Management and Storage – Tackling renewable energy and grid optimization.
  2. Recycling and Waste Management – Pioneering circular economy solutions.
  3. Mobility and Transportation – Innovating electric and sustainable transit.
  4. Sustainable Materials – Creating greener alternatives to traditional products.
  5. Agriculture, Food, and Forestry – Revolutionizing farming and food production.

Among the stars of this ecosystem are globally recognized names like Northvolt (sustainable batteries), H2 Green Steel (hydrogen-based steel production), and PulPac (fiber-based packaging). Innovators like CorPower Ocean (wave energy), STILRIDE (origami-inspired e-mobility), and PlasticFri (biodegradable plastics) showcase Sweden’s knack for blending creativity with impact.

But Sweden isn’t alone in mapping climate innovation. Across the globe, platforms like Startup Basecamp, Climate-KIC, and Elemental Excelerator in the U.S., along with IndiClime in Asia, are fostering similar ecosystems, emphasizing the global nature of this green movement.

As we approach another year of green milestones, we at BayInco wish every startup, investor, and advocate a fruitful journey toward sustainability. Got a favorite startup on the Swedish Climate Startup Map? Let us know in the comments! 🌱
